Wardrobe Update | Image Refresh

As we are coming into the summer months my work clothes are too thick and ‘winter-like’ for this hotter weather.

I want to re-vamp my work wardrobe but need advice on styles and great places in the UK to shop….

Come on ladies… What are your suggestions?

Ladies Day at the Races | Intu Lakeside

Horse racing isn’t really my cup of tea but when I was kindly invited by intu Lakeside  I jumped at the chance.  I’d never been to Ascot or anything of the sort, and hearing a lot of buzz around these types of events, especially in the beauty world, I thought it would be crazy to let this opportunity slip past. Surprisingly I already had a few special dresses hanging in my closet that I knew would go perfect for this kind of event, so all that I had to worry about was my hair and make up!

On a beautiful Thursday afternoon I found myself arriving at the Chelmsford race course for the Ladies Day event, where I quickly realised the effort everyone had gone to, to make this day perfect. The staff were all just as well presented as the guests, the place was immaculate and the weather was stunning. Walking into the grounds I was met by several different stands from companies such as Pimms, Love that Hat, Elms boot camp and, of course, intu Lakeside.

intu Lakeside had got together a beautiful range of dresses from all different companies that are situated in the centre and brought along some fantastic make-up artists from Dior House of Fraser. Now, I have been going to intu Lakeside on a regular basis, it is probably considered my hub of retail therapy, but after all these years even I was still ignorant to the services that they offer. After spending around 20 minutes speaking to Carlene, I was advised about the stylist service that intu Lakeside provides to its customers if and when they require help. She explained to me the 9, yes 9, different packages that intu Lakeside offer to its shoppers. The packages are detailed, consistent and cover all your fashion worries. If you’re a new mum and need clothing that is appropriate yet still young and fun then Carlene has you covered. Or if you are still trying to figure out what ‘smart casual wear’ is, then Carlene has the answer for you! Carlene explained her approach and technique she has when giving you style advice and her vibe was completely friendly and welcoming. Let’s face it, having another woman, or man for that matter, looking at your body shape, the current clothes you’re wearing and judging your overall appearance is down right unnerving, but Carlene’s approach is refreshing and allows you to be honest with yourself. I have booked a stylist session with the beautiful Carlene, once I have spent the day with her and got all the facts about the sessions offered I will write a full, detailed blog post so you have all the information you need.

After hearing about some of the services that intu Lakeside has to offer, I spent some time with the lovely girls from Dior House of Fraser. They gave my lips some much needed attention, topped up my perfume, gave me a foundation match for the Dior Star foundation and booked me in with their regional make up artist. I also received a goody bag with samples like the Diorshow Mascara with its initiative locking packaging to stop drying.

Intu Lakeside also offered a wealth of brochures, showing all the services they offer including the customer lounger situated in the Central Atrium level 1. The customer lounger offers the perfect shopping retreat where you can pick up gift cards, click collect & return, centre information, free WiFi, Concierge service, free phone charging with more to come.

The rest of my day was filled with spending time around the Chelmsford Race course which was beautiful and immaculate! I really enjoyed the fashion and beauty from not only the women but men as well! Thank you to Intu Lakeside (Voice Communications) for inviting me along to an amazing day!

New addition | A new puppy…

Growing up surrounded by what felt like the cast of Noah’s Arc, I felt a little empty space in my new home. Going from a packed family house of five which was host to cats, tarantulas, rabbits, hamster etc etc etc etc, meant that when I moved in with my boyfriend that although our home is smaller it felt quiet!

Myself and Adam have decided to bring in a new addition to the family… A beautiful little boy called Cooper who will be joining our family on the 20th of July! This is a massive commitment for us and I couldn’t be happier!

I will be doing a whole segment about breeders and choosing the right puppy for you…

Has anyone got any tips on training and integrating a puppy into apartment life?

A little something something…. | The Body Shop Vitamin C Energising face spritz

One of the perks of having combination skin is that you can often get dull, lack lustre looking skin. It’s true… our plight is real and very frustrating. We combat dryness and oiliness on the same canvas, but now we have to put up with skin that’s got as much life oozing from it as a baked potato. I may be a little dramatic but my pain is real and really affects my self esteem.

Whilst skin care shopping in the Body Shop, this little bottle of Vitamin C Energising face spritz magically found itself in my basket (that happens a lot aye) and for the price of £10! You might think that’s expensive, but you get 100ml and this product has lasted a while!

What does it actually do? If you’re having a dull day or you want a pick me up, this product is the one for you! Enriched with Vitamin C, it gives an instant boost and subtle glow to your face whilst drying to a matte finish – so all you oily girls (and guys!) don’t shy away! Its also made with aloe Vera to smooth the skin if its feeling a little irritated.

When do you use this? I use this product before applying moisturiser (and after if its looking particularly dull) and allow to sink in well. Its great because it doesn’t affect the application of your foundation or concealer, if anything it makes it glide on more evenly and gives you a radiant boost… who doesn’t want that? I love to give my face a good few sprays during a hot day at work to re-awaken myself! Don’t worry about this product smudging your make-up, even if you have a smoky eye!

Is it convenient to use? Yes! If you want the short answer ha ha! The bottle is compact, sleek and the perfect size to throw in your handbag so you can take it on the go! It comes in a spray form so you don’t to worry about using your hands! The spray covers a large area on my face, so two or three sprays and you’ll be good to go!

Is it worth the money? This question is always hard to answer because it depends on your budget and how much money you want to spend on an ‘accessory’ product like this. These types of products are always a luxury rather than a necessity but I would miss it if it wasn’t in my collection!

Overall verdict… its good, but not a show stopper!

Would I recommend to a friend? Yes!

Scoring out of 10? 8

Have you tried this product, if so… what did you think?

Is it right for me? | The Body Shop – Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask Review

I’m going to cut straight to the chase here because lets face it (excuse the pun), when it comes to skin care we don’t have time to mess around. You want to know if ‘The Body Shop – Drops of youth Bouncy sleeping mask‘ is any good, and I am going to tell you!

So how much is it? Depending on your lifestyle and the how much you budget towards skincare, some might think that its a hefty price tag, others may not. For £22 you can take this baby home, which for me was a little bit of a sting for one product. But its lasted around 3 weeks with every day use (sorry… I mean every night use) and its still going strong.

Is it worth it? You all know that I have combination skin, which is a pain at its best. It dries out quickly and can become overwhelming oily 5 seconds later, so I am always on the look out for a product that can give me moisture but doesn’t make my make-up slip and slide. I had heard a little buzz around this product and was intrigued by the ‘bouncy’ aspect and the fact you use it overnight. This means I can give my skin the moisture it needs without risking the staying power of my foundation. I won’t lie, the consistency is strange -it is exactly as described… bouncy. If you open up your jar, stick your finger in it… it will slowly reform to its original shape. According to The Body Shop, 70% of users agree that their skin looks bouncier and 80% that their skin feels replenished. Take those figures whichever way you wish, I would agree with both and expected more people to feel the same!

Is it convenient to use? You’ll be able to see from the photos what the product looks like if you have never seen it before and I think we can all agree that the packaging is quite luxurious. It sounds odd, but I really like the wide and thin dimensions it has going on, its sleek and neat! You do have to keep the box it comes in because you do get a handy spatula which, unless you want to fish it out of the product every night you may need to find a safe place for it. Now I just slap this on like I do my moisturiser… hastily. But, if you would like expert advice, then click here to find out how to apply it most effectively…there is something about over the rainbow hands in there. I would definitely say to only use this at night because it can leave your skin feeling a little oily, unless you’re staying home all day then more power to you! I also so stick to the guidelines on how much to use, because it takes a little while to sink into your skin.

The difference? I have never purchased a ‘night time moisturiser’ before this one, so the comparison will be difficult. I would always just slap on a super healthy helping of my daily moisturiser and think it would do the trick. Oh.. how wrong I was. This moisturiser is super charged, super smoothing, moisturising and refreshing. You wake up feeling completely refreshed and replenished. I have also noticed a difference with my scarring and acne too! Is this product a miracle? Most probably not, but it has made a big difference to my skins appearance and I will continue to repurchase this baby… until I find something better! haha.

Is it right for me? No matter if you have oily, dry or combination skin I think this product is worth a try. I am not skin expert, nor do I know anything about your skin so therefore I cannot say for definite if this product is going to work for you. What I would say is that, if you’re happy to spend £22 giving this a shot, then go for it girls (or boys), you could be onto a winner!

Will I repurchase? Yes!

Would I recommend to a friend? Yes, to all ages to!

Score, out of 10. 8 or 9!

Have you tried this product? If so, what did you think?

Feeling Privileged | HotHair Event

A few week ago I was very kindly invited to my first beauty related event by HotHair. I am going to be honest, I hadn’t heard of HotHair before receiving the invitation, but none the less, I was really excited. Not only was I excited to see how these types of events run, but keen to see what HotHair offers that makes them stand out from the crowd.

The event took place on the 26th of March at the breathtaking Renaissance Hotel at Kings Cross St. Pancras. It’s a spectacular building that oozes class and sophistication, quite overwhelming to be honest.  Upon arrival, me and my plus one were taken by a steward, guided through the building and personally delivered to the HotHair room. Walking in we were greeted by the lovely Louise and were promptly offered a drink. Throughout the duration of the evening I was really blown away by how attentive the waiters/waitressses were and how informative all the HotHair ladies were about the current and future products. The room was adorned with an array of their products, from full wigs to extensions and ponytails which we all got to try on and play around with. A special mention has to be given to Emily to helped myself and my plus one for dedicating herself to me for 60 minutes whilst I really got to try on their amazing products.

The lovely ladies at HotHair gave us a hair piece of our choice to take away with us and a bag filled with lots of goodies which I will be doing a post on shortly. I was lucky enough to take away the HotHair uplift in long, which I will do a full review on showing all the different ways to style your hair using this piece.

*COMING SOON* – A full review of HotHair;s Uplift hair piece in long! & A post of all the goodies I received in my ‘goody bag’ from the HotHair Event!

Want to make some money? | Vinted App

If you’re like me and half your wardrobe is filled with clothes you don’t wear then you should check out the vinted app!

I was a little dubious about the app at first but it is so simple and easy to sell your clothes! Vinted is an app that let’s you sell unwanted clothes (old or new) by simply snapping a few photos straight from your mobile. You then answer a few questions about the item you’re selling. For example, size, condition, price etc. You have the option to sell, swap with others or gift your items. The last step is to set a postage range, but the app helps you decide which is the best option. The buyer pays for the shipping, you can claim it back with a code that is printed on the receipt at the post office!

This app is great to get rid of those unused clothes and free up wardrobe space!

Please check out my store – hlester8

Moving Home | How much do we need to budget?

Happy couple in their new home concept

Hi Ladies,

So as you know me and my lovely boyfriend are moving home by the end of this year. We are taking a different path to the one previously laid out but none the less we are really excited. Instead of buying a house we are going to rent and save (all be it a little less than we would living separately) to buy in a few years.

My question is, how much (excluding rent) should we expect to be paying for the other bills? For example, food, electricity, TV etc.

Your input is very much appreciated!

Healthy Glow | MAC Soft & Gentle Review

Hi Ladies,

I have been struggling lately will dull and lifeless skin, its a common curse that comes with combination skin. One minute you’re an oily mess the next you’re flaky! My skin has not been reacting well with any foundation that I’ve used. One thing that has helped is adding a little highlight to my cheekbones, chin and a dash on my forehead. The highlight that gives me that natural, healthy glow without being too much is MAC’s soft and gentle. I don’t normally apply highlighter during the day for work, but as my skin is looking a little dull I have been using a dusting to add a little glow.

I’ve read a lot of reviews that say this highlighter is too harsh, glittery and unnatural. I have to disagree completely. Using this product ‘softly’ and ‘gently’ (see what I did there ;)) will allow your skin to have this beautiful sheen that reflects light gorgeously. Using a fan or a tapered hightlighter brush, gently press it on the highlighter, tap off the excess and lightly apply. I find it best if I hold the brush right at the end, as far away from the brush head as possible and lightly dust the product across the desired areas. I would suggest not to go all guns blazing with this, start with a little and then add more if you need. It is very difficult to undo a highlight, so start with a small amount and intensify the look by adding light layers.

These photos show how much of a healthy glow this highlighter can add to your skin.

This product is like any other MAC product, the packaging is classic and timeless. Its the sort of packaging that doesn’t catch your eye or offend it either. £23 might seem a little steep, especially for a highlighter, but use this product right and you’ll be glad you treated yourself. Its not only great as a highlight for your face, but can be used on your body, eyelids and on the lips too. Put your favourite lipstick on, run your finger over the highlighter and press it gently on the centre of your lips and cupids bow. Your lips will look fuller and gorgeous!
