Is it right for me? | The Body Shop – Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask Review

IMG_1553

I’m going to cut straight to the chase here because lets face it (excuse the pun), when it comes to skin care we don’t have time to mess around. You want to know if ‘The Body Shop – Drops of youth Bouncy sleeping mask‘ is any good, and I am going to tell you!

So how much is it? Depending on your lifestyle and the how much you budget towards skincare, some might think that its a hefty price tag, others may not. For £22 you can take this baby home, which for me was a little bit of a sting for one product. But its lasted around 3 weeks with every day use (sorry… I mean every night use) and its still going strong.

Is it worth it? You all know that I have combination skin, which is a pain at its best. It dries out quickly and can become overwhelming oily 5 seconds later, so I am always on the look out for a product that can give me moisture but doesn’t make my make-up slip and slide. I had heard a little buzz around this product and was intrigued by the ‘bouncy’ aspect and the fact you use it overnight. This means I can give my skin the moisture it needs without risking the staying power of my foundation. I won’t lie, the consistency is strange -it is exactly as described… bouncy. If you open up your jar, stick your finger in it… it will slowly reform to its original shape. According to The Body Shop, 70% of users agree that their skin looks bouncier and 80% that their skin feels replenished. Take those figures whichever way you wish, I would agree with both and expected more people to feel the same!

Is it convenient to use? You’ll be able to see from the photos what the product looks like if you have never seen it before and I think we can all agree that the packaging is quite luxurious. It sounds odd, but I really like the wide and thin dimensions it has going on, its sleek and neat! You do have to keep the box it comes in because you do get a handy spatula which, unless you want to fish it out of the product every night you may need to find a safe place for it. Now I just slap this on like I do my moisturiser… hastily. But, if you would like expert advice, then click here to find out how to apply it most effectively…there is something about over the rainbow hands in there. I would definitely say to only use this at night because it can leave your skin feeling a little oily, unless you’re staying home all day then more power to you! I also so stick to the guidelines on how much to use, because it takes a little while to sink into your skin.

IMG_1571

The difference? I have never purchased a ‘night time moisturiser’ before this one, so the comparison will be difficult. I would always just slap on a super healthy helping of my daily moisturiser and think it would do the trick. Oh.. how wrong I was. This moisturiser is super charged, super smoothing, moisturising and refreshing. You wake up feeling completely refreshed and replenished. I have also noticed a difference with my scarring and acne too! Is this product a miracle? Most probably not, but it has made a big difference to my skins appearance and I will continue to repurchase this baby… until I find something better! haha.

Is it right for me? No matter if you have oily, dry or combination skin I think this product is worth a try. I am not skin expert, nor do I know anything about your skin so therefore I cannot say for definite if this product is going to work for you. What I would say is that, if you’re happy to spend £22 giving this a shot, then go for it girls (or boys), you could be onto a winner!

Will I repurchase? Yes!

Would I recommend to a friend? Yes, to all ages to!

Score, out of 10. 8 or 9!

Have you tried this product? If so, what did you think?

The Enhancer | Urban Decay B6 Spray

Yesterday I posted about the miracles of sweet almond oil and the wonders it has done for my skin. The oil is fantastic but on the days where I want to go that extra mile or my skin needs to be refreshed I reach for my B6 spray by Urban Decay. I first saw this product used by Sona Gasparian on Teni Panosian whilst doing a bridal make up look. It looked fantastic and I instantly knew I needed to get my hands on it. I rushed over to my nearest Urban Decay counter which happened to be in Debenhams and paid the quite steep £22 to make that baby mine!

On the bottle the directions read that you should apply the product before even moisturiser, but in Sona’s video you see her apply if after foundation and concealer. She uses it to fuse the products together and melt them into Teni’s skin. The results of which looked flawless… the very thing that got me hooked. I’ve experimented with using the spray both ways and using it twice. The mist is super fine and sometimes I feel like I have to spray it quite alot in order to cover my face effectively but it does have an instant improvement factor. I have found that this product is best used with the HD forever foundation and a damp beauty blender, but if you don’t have either it will still improve the look of your foundation. Dont worry, you can use this product both in the summer and winter with the same results.

If my skin is looking a little dull then I’ll spray this before moisturiser to give it a head start. The spray claims to reduce redness, absorb oil and decrease pore size. If they’re the results you’re after than definitely spray it before applying your make up, however if you’re looking to enhance your glow and really make your foundation look flawless, do it after. Of course, if you’re like me and want both then spray it before and after. This spray is also good if your skin is looking a little cakey or patchy through dryness then a few sprits of this will mend that straight away.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying its a miracle product like the almond oil, however it does make a difference. I am sure there are better sprays out there so I will be on the look out for them and I’ll keep you updated. However, for now I am happy to keep using this spray until it finishes. Will I repurchase, I am not sure. Its £22, which for me is quite pricey and is a product I think I could live without.

Advantages

  • Can be used to blend foundation and concealer creating a more natural, flawless look.
  • Reduces redness
  • Minimises pores
  • Prevents oil production
  • Spray form – easy to use
  • Compact Bottle
  • Quite a lot of product – has lasted me a long time
  • Refreshes Skin – can be used half way through the day.

Disadvantages

  • Initially quite expensive
  • Such a fine mist, do have to spray a lot!
  • Not keen on the smell (however this doesn’t linger)

Scoring

Overall the product is worth the money, it just seems expensive at first. I give this product 8/10.

My Secret Weapon | Flawless Foundation

If it were between having gorgeous fluttery eyelashes, plump lips or flawless skin… I would choose to have skin so flawless it made others cry with jealously. Lets face it.. (no pun intended 😉 ) our skin can make or break a make up look. No matter how good you are at blending, if your skin isn’t cutting it then your foundation, blusher, bronzer, highlighter and contouring can look like a hack job. The skin is the canvas and background to the rest of our make up, you wouldn’t start painting on a dirty canvas, so wash that face. That means no mascara smudges under the eyes and no left over red lippy. You need to take care of your skin, prepare it and allow it to repair too! In the mornings, when I do most of my make up looks, I wash my face using whatever facial wash I am using at that time. I am currently using the hot cloth cleanser by Liz Earle. For £15.50 you get the cleanser and a muslin cloth. I use this once in the morning whilst I am in the shower and it leaves my skin really soft and cleans away any left over dirt. Before I apply any moisturiser I wash my face with cold water in the sink, not only does it wake me up but closes the pores opened by my hot shower. I then pat, not rub, my face dry and apply my moisturiser. This isn’t just any moisturiser, its my secret weapon. I actually use an oil, sweet almond oil to be precise. This is a multi use product, I not only use it to add moisture but to remove my make up in the evenings. Just add a little drop onto your fingers, and apply to your face, making sure you cover your entire face. At first you may not like the sleek sensation you get with it, and it may bring utter horror to you to think that your face will become an oily mess. Now I suffer with oily skin, and I would have never dreamed of adding more oil. This step however counteracts this, it decreases my oil production and my skin glows instead of shines. Once I have applied the oil to my skin I allow enough time for the product to sink in before I apply my primer. I have a few different primers so don’t always reach for the same one, so it doesn’t matter which one you use they all give  pretty similar results. My daily work foundation is Loreal True Match, its blends well and doesn’t take a lot of effort. I have better foundations, but for everyday this is great. I wet my beauty blender and bounce the foundation onto my skin. If there are areas on my face that need a little extra attention I may build up coverage by applying more. I normally use 2 pumps of this foundation for everyday wear, but will increase that if desired. The gentleness of the damp sponge allows the foundation and oil to merge and gives the most stunning, glowing skin I’ve ever had. This only gets better during the day!!

This is me on the far left using this very technique!

IMG_4343 If you’re going to be pushing your make up to the max and wearing it all day, you might want use a setting spray to lock everything in place. I use Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray to make up nothing budges all day. IMG_4829 Now back to the oil – I buy my Naissance almond oil from Amazon for £2.99! YES…. £2.99 for 250ml! I just can’t emphasise enough the wonders this has done for my skin. I have always suffered from acne and scarred terribly too. This oil nourishes my skin, softens, smooths and moisturises it! Its an all rounder too – applying a little to your made up face and leaving it for 2 minutes will melt away that make up. Wash it off with your facial wash and your skin is squeaky clean but doesn’t feel tight or dry. I suffer terribly with skin that gets effected by the weather, it gets dry easily in the winter yet my T-zone still gets as oily as a frying pan. This oil has corrected that and heals my scars at the same time. You can also use this for other parts of your body. As a body moisturiser, a few drops in the bath will leave your skin silky soft. You could even apply it to the ends of your hair for the ultimate nourishment. I will continue to use this oil, its great for travelling too as it combines so many different products all in one. You may be thinking that this review is too good to be true but trust me. Let me know if you want a video tutorial on this, just comment below!
